The cancer journey is long and hard...
Life veers abruptly off its usual meandering course when you find yourself sitting in a doctor's office one day and hear the doctor say,"You've got cancer." That moment is like being hit in the face by a sack of bricks – a large sack of bricks that had picked up quite a lot of momentum while careening towards your face. It’s overwhelming and terrifying...and it leaves you with many unanswered questions. Well, that’s where Cancer Roadmap comes in – its purpose is to serve as a roadmap to help you navigate the cancer journey. Obviously, each person that gets diagnosed with cancer experiences different courses of treatment, obstacles, and outcomes, however, as a former cancer patient, I truly believe that there are common questions and information that every cancer patient needs and deserves to know. I am not a doctor or a medical professional of any kind, but I am a cancer survivor – and like any survivor, I have war stories and lots of other pieces of information floating around in my head worth sharing. I created this website to organize it all so that others may benefit from the knowledge I gained on my cancer journey. After all, knowledge is power. In addition to my tips and advice, I scour the Internet frequently to find the websites that provide the best, most straight-forward information about specific types of cancer and their existing courses of treatment. I’ve put links to these websites in one place so you can peruse and find the technical information you're looking for about your cancer. I identify social and fundraising events across the United States that support cancer care and research and include details (again, all in one place) so that you can pick one that “speaks” to you to support. And I’ve tried to weave some humor into all of it because although cancer is a serious subject, humor itself is a medicine that can’t be ignored. The cancer journey is long and difficult – but hopefully this roadmap will help you find some of the answers you’re looking for.
